Restoring your tooth with a filling at Brookvale & Merrifield

A filling is one of the most straightforward and effective ways to treat tooth decay, relieve discomfort, and restore your smile. At both our Honiton and Sidmouth practices, we use tooth-coloured composite fillings as standard. Your appointment will never feel rushed, and we'll take the time to make sure you're comfortable throughout your appointment.

What is a tooth filling?

A dental filling repairs a tooth that has been damaged by decay or minor fracture. During the procedure, we gently remove the decayed portion and fill the cavity with a durable composite resin that's matched to your natural tooth colour. Unlike older amalgam materials, composite fillings bond directly to the tooth and provide a seamless finish that's virtually invisible.

What to expect when you come in for a filling

Your appointment

We'll examine the tooth, take X-rays if needed, and explain what we've found. You'll get a clear picture of what the filling involves and a price before we proceed.

Filling the tooth

We'll apply local anaesthetic to the area so you won't feel pain, then remove the decay and place the filling. Most appointments take around 30 minutes.

After your filling

Some sensitivity around the tooth for a few days is normal and usually settles on its own. We'll tell you what to expect before you leave.

How much does a tooth filling cost?

The cost of a filling depends on the size and location of the cavity, but for a general guideline you can take a look at our pricing page or contact our team.

You can manage the cost of your routine dental care with our membership plans, which include two examinations and two hygiene appointments per year, and also provide you with 10% off all other treatments across both our practices.

Do I need a filling?

You might need a filling if you're experiencing tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold drinks, or discomfort when biting. If you haven't visited a dentist in a while, it's worth booking a check-up as most cavities are detected during routine examinations before they cause noticeable symptoms. Treating decay early helps prevent more invasive treatment later on.

The fillings we provide in Honiton and Sidmouth

Composite (tooth-coloured) fillings

Matched to the colour of your natural teeth and bonded directly to the tooth. Standard choice for most cavities, and suitable for front and back teeth.

Replacing old amalgam fillings

If you have older silver amalgam fillings that are worn, cracked, or you'd prefer a more natural appearance, we can replace them with tooth-coloured composite.

Large cavity fillings

For more extensive decay, a larger filling may be required. If there isn't enough remaining tooth structure, you may need an inlay, onlay, or crown instead.

Children's fillings

We provide fillings for children in a calm and gentle way, taking extra time to explain the procedure so they feel at ease throughout their appointment.

Experienced, careful fillings from a team you can trust

Being a private practice means we're never working against the clock, and we won’t leave you waiting for treatment. We take our time with every filling to ensure it's placed properly, looks natural, and feels comfortable. Between our practices in Honiton and Sidmouth, our dentists bring decades of combined experience to even the most routine treatments, and that care shows in the results.
