What is a dental implant?
When a tooth is lost, the root goes with it, and it's the root that keeps the jawbone stimulated and healthy. A dental implant replaces that root with a small titanium post, which is placed directly into the jawbone and left to integrate with the surrounding bone over a period of weeks. Once secure, it acts as a stable foundation for a prosthetic tooth (or teeth) on top.
Unlike a conventional bridge, which is anchored to the teeth on either side of the gap, or a removable denture that sits on the gum surface, an implant stands completely on its own. It doesn't put any strain on neighbouring teeth, it preserves the jawbone beneath, and because it functions just like a natural root, it restores your ability to eat, speak, and smile without compromise.
